Save the mural in Adams Morgan

There is an effort to try to save a mural painted over the doorway of the Potter’s House in Columbia Road in Adams Morgan. The bright and colorful mural has become a fixture on Columbia Road, and now serves as an important symbol of the neighborhood's creative energy. Erasing it will be like a erasing a little bit of what makes Adams Morgan special. This mural is worth saving.

The mural entitled “The Light of the World” was painted by local artist Karla-“Karlisima” Rodas-Israel. Here's a short interview with her in her studio.

The new owners of the building, the Eighth Day Community Church, plan to paint over the work, according to the artist. The artist's Website

Thoughts about Tennesse

Tennessee State Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson were removed from the legislature because they are Black and liberal. This is racism and bigotry in all its ugliness. This is joined by the Supreme Court, which allows voting suppression to flourish again. I can't believe the path this nation is on. I just can't. But then, when you peel back the covers a little, you find the racism and blind hatred that has always been a part of this country has never disappeared until the Republicans unleashed it. It should be clear why participation in the political process matters. In DC, that usually isn't an issue. Our problem is we are denied representation in Congress, and our local laws exist at the pleasure of Congress. Something has to change.
